
Our
village of Shirwell is one of the old "One Hundreds" being the birthplace
of the "Round the World" Yachtsman Sir Francis Chichester who's family were
the "Landed Gentry" of the area, his cousin owning the National Trust property
"Arlington Court"
( about 4 miles up the road ).
Gardens
to visit include: Marwood Hill and RHS Rosemoor, both a short drive away.

with its famous butchers row, offers the visitor a wealth of cultural and
historic interest. From the Queens theatre to the museums and shopping centres
the town can both inform and entertain. A few miles from Barnstaple lies the
magnificent beaches of Saunton Sands and Woolacombe, voted one of the top
10 beaches in the world.
